About JohnDJ & Producer based in Washington DC. Started Dj'ing in 1990, held my first residency at Late Night Library in Tallahassee FL 1995-1997. 1999, Co-founded 'Groovedistrict', DC's original Brokenbeat/ NuSounds crew and launched Aromatic; DC's first weekly dedicated 100% to Brokenbeat, NuJazz, Afrobeat, HouseNotHouse, etc. After a few months we took on Saturdays at the same venue (The Aroma Co.) and started 'Trainspotting'; an outlet for lesser known Soul, Jazz, Funk, Reggae & select rare goodies that had been sampled and/ or covered. 2002 at DC's CLUB FIVE, Dan Soda , Myself, & Dj Julius hosted ABSTRACT MOTION, another weekly geared toward House, NuJazz, Downtempo, and Brokenbeat. Our guest roster included Jazzanova, Koop, Jaymz Nylon, Bugz members (Mark Force & Daz-I-kue), Kyoto Jazz Massive, Agent 99, Ian Frost, DeRigueur, Lars 'LB' Behrenroth, Lazy Dog & Matthew Herbert....to name a few. 2004, after joining the staff at DJ HUT, I began my current Friday night residency at Mie N Yu in Georgetown (3125 M Street NW), playing Brazilian, African, Latin & other world grooves mixed with Jazz, Dub, House, Brokenbeat, NuJazz, D&B, & Funk from 930pm-230am. December 2006, Sam Burns and I produced "DC CAB RIDE" for "The Underground Sound of DC, Vol.1" a compilation CD released by Tone 13 Recordings featuring some of DC's best talent. Thievery Corporation, Fort Knox Five, Johnson and Burns, Jette-Ives, J-Punch, Tom Blondet, Seroya, Arthur Loves Plastic, Kid Gusto, and more, Donated their tunes to help raise awareness and funds for HIV/AIDS. All proceeds for this CD go directly to DC's own Whitman-Walker Clinic, one of the oldest AIDS service organizations in the country. August 30th 2007, Selectadeb & I started PEAS & RICE, a border crossing affair every Thursday from 9pm-2am at The Aroma Company: 3417 Connecticut Avenue NW Washington, D.C. (across from the Uptown Theater). Dub, Afrobeat, Classic Reggae, Downtempo, Nujazz, Brokenbeat, & House with a nod to Brazilian, Latin, African, and West London flavors. Feb. '08 "Zeep Dreams" by Zeep was released on 12" from Farout Recordings featuring my remix along with remixes by Afronaught, DaLata/ KV5, & Lucio K. Mp3's available from most digital retailers. March '08,"Funkular crouton" picked up by 202 Digital202. A latin jam featuring Ben Tyree on guitar & Ben Tett on saxophone. Fans of this Show
